Established in 1995, Solutions for HR Inc. is comprised of a group of individuals who possess extensive technical knowledge combined with practical hands on business experience gained in a variety of business environments. We believe in a partnering style of consulting; that is we link practical, actionable solutions to clients’ business strategies to produce superior results.

HOSPITALITY HR
The hospitality industry is a large, important and growing sector of our economy and employs a large segment of the population. Comprised of a wide variety of businesses in different segments of the industry, typically each one must deal with operating costs which are high and profit margins which are not. GRANT CLARK
Grant is the founder of Solutions for HR Inc. and is a seasoned business executive with more than 30 years of human resources leadership and consulting experience ranging from small entrepreneurial companies to large complex international organizations. He has held the senior human resources role and executive committee member in organizations involved in hospitality, retail, gaming, real estate, manufacturing, and telecommunications.
Grant is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University with a BA in Psychology and is experienced in all aspects of human resources management including labour relations.
He has personally bargained more than 250 collective labour agreements in Canada and the US . He has served as a member of the advisory board for the hospitality management program at the University of Guelph , and as a member of a senior steering committee for the the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. He is currently Chair of the Mississauga Board of Trade’s Human Resources Committee.
HR ADVISOR
For a low monthly fee this ‘on demand' service provides professional advice on all human resources and labour relations issues.
Managers today must deal with a variety of employee issues on a daily basis and face unfamiliar situations which are not easily resolved and often requiring immediate action. HR Advisor provides an excellent and timely source of information and guidance via telephone relating to statutory obligations, compliance, union contracts, and more effectively managing your people.

TARGETED RECRUITMENT AND SEARCH
We are primarily management consultants and do not operate as a traditional employment agency, however we do have the resources, expertise and contacts to assist your organization in everything from the confidential search for a key manager or executive to the development and implementation of a significant staffing program, or anything in between that you may require.

POLICIES & PRACTICES
Many organizations have written policies including pay levels which are well established and included in a comprehensive manual and made available to varying levels of employees, often only management. In others policies may be in the form of memos or bulletins, often with limited or inconsistent distribution and application. Yet others allow ‘policy' and pay levels to be set by various managers who may or may not document them.
Every organization should have policies and procedures to ensure that your employees are treated consistently across a variety of employment issues. These policies should be reviewed regularly to ensure that they are contemporary in relation to competitive practices and employment legislation and identify many practices which may exist in the organization which may or not be appropriate. Failure to do this leads to employee morale problems, potential unionization issues, and leaves your employment related policies and practices vulnerable to challenges, grievances and possibly lawsuits.
This is particularly true if you are inconsistent with how you apply your policies and your pay/structure. The costs including penalties to your organization can be significant.

EMPLOYEE AND LABOUR RELATIONS
We have extensive experience in assisting successful organizations with and without unions in a variety of different industries.
Most, if not all employers would prefer to manage their businesses union free and we would agree. For non-union employers we can and have successfully taught managers how to remain union free through effective management of their workforce. Additionally we provide advice daily to non-union employers on a wide range of employee relations issues including dealing with various government regulatory authorities.
For those employers who are unionized it is certainly possible to manage your business efficiently and profitably.
For unionized employers we deal with all aspects of labour relations ranging from developing overall strategies on how to manage more effectively with a union(s), to advise on handling grievances up to and including representation at arbitration hearings, to the preparation for and negotiation of union contracts.
In all cases we provide sound advice on which to make good business decisions based on both the legislative framework and the needs of your organization. We are business people ourselves.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Many organizations sell training programs; some are very good, while others are questionable in value to the company which has purchased them. The key is determining which programs will be most effective in meeting your needs, and in measuring results that are specific to the condition that you need to improve. Author Peter Keen in his book “Shaping the Future” says “The central element in any education (training) strategy is not the content of the program but its’ behavioural (performance) objectives - not what people learn from the course, but what they do as a result.”
Our approach favours using a combination of programs and materials which may be commercially available as well as custom material and integrating them into a company specific program, designed to meet that organization’s needs at a point in time. An overall training and development program would include stratification based on employee needs at different organizational levels, as well as linkages between all appropriate components.

EMPLOYEE AND ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH
We are advocates of managing organizational health and disability risk. The cost of the various components of organizational health issues represents a significant expense to most organizations and continues to increase. This includes the direct premium costs of such items as employer health tax, worker's compensation, employment insurance, and insured health benefits as well as absenteeism, replacement wages, lost productivity and customer service. In addition there is exposure to penalties, fines and in some cases more serious consequences for organizations and their senior officials who incur serious health and safety problems.
